My girls are recovering Paci addicts. We have been going through paci detox for 36 hours now and it has been interesting.
I have put off taking away Mallina's paci for many reasons; a new baby sister, me abandoning the family for 12 days to go to Fiji and New Zealand, a big move, potty training, a long drive to Utah, etc. I finally decided that I have no more excuses and needed to get rid of the thing. However, Eva created a problem because if she was still using a paci Mallina could easily take one of hers, so I had to traumatize both of them at the same time. And of course I decide to do it right after their grandpa goes back to Fiji after a three month long stay, and right as their daddy takes a new job all the way in Utah. However I am happy to report that they are both doing so well!
Yesterday was so scary for me. I took their paci's after they woke up and cut off the tips so they couldn't suck on them anymore, but I kind of hid them, out of sight, out of mind right? I regretted it as soon as I did it. Then nap time came along...yikes! Mallina discovered that the paci was "broken" first, but I have been preparing her for this for a while. She wants the new Diamond Princess Barbie and I told her a while ago that she could have it if she gave up her paci's. She got pretty excited about that.
Then little Eva told me her paci had an "owie" she almost had me in tears with that one. But she is the lucky one who still nurses so she still was able to suck herself to sleep. Getting her to let go was interesting...but she went to sleep. Mallina on the other hand took 45 minutes to get to sleep! Grr! I was very annoyed, but so proud of her when she finally did it. That night was a lot worse, Eva decided she was done nursing so she just layed in my arms being a Chatty Kathy which provoked Mallina to do the same. They would not shut up! It took Eva 30 minutes to go to sleep and it took Mallina a good hour or so to go to sleep! But they did better today and we are paci free!
Today I got to go to the store without filling my bag up with as many paci's as I could find in case of an emergency, and I don't have to frantically look in every nook and cranny before nap time or bed time to find a paci! Woohoo! So I am feeling a little nostalgic, that paci kept Mallina my baby for the past three years, and now it is gone. So here are a few funny shots of the two paci addicts together, and there are slide shows of each of the girls and their paci's to follow.

Three cheers for the recovering additcts! Hip-hip-hooray! Hip-hip-hooray! Hip-hip-hooray!
(I bought them those barbies today and I will post pics of the girls and their new BFF's later!)
